Grasslands: the future health of our communities, personal health and humanity depend on them. Global warming, cancer, diabetes, obesity, peak oil and environmental degradation are now commonplace themes of discussion not only in the alternative press, but in mainstream media. Just how related are they to one another? What is the common thread that is unraveling? As G.K. Chesterton said, "It isn't that they can't see the solution. It is that they can't see the problem.” The conversion of our precious grasslands into cereal production has created an onslaught of biological destruction that can be readily connected to an avalanche of health problems in our children as well as a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico the size of New Jersey. The past has spoken of the collapse of many civilizations, but never have we faced such strains upon the biosphere globally as we do currently.
